What Is Built-Up Roofing (BUR)?

Built-Up Roofing (BUR) — also called 'tar and gravel' roofing — is one of the oldest and most proven commercial flat roofing systems. It consists of multiple alternating layers of bitumen and reinforcing fabric, topped with a flood coat of bitumen and aggregate surfacing. The multiple layers provide excellent redundancy and durability. BUR has a proven track record of 20–30 year performance.
