You've probably heard the saying..."the devils in the details".  Your roof will require choices about many, many details and in most cases, the roofing contractor will make these decisions.  Why should you care?  Because the way the details are done will prove to be critically important and a determining factor in how well your new roof performs, and how long it will last.

The above photo shows our method of flashing in a round roof penetration.  We use a stainless steel base flashing and storm collar.  Why?  Stainless steel doesn't rust.

The above photo shows a replacement box gutter we installed,
custom fabricated from mill finish aluminum.  Why aluminum?
Aluminum doesn't rust.

The above photo shows a cheaply installed penetration
flashing where the roofer just gobbed a bunch of
roof cement around the penetration.  Does anyone
really believe this cheap workmanship will perform
for twenty years?  It might, at best, last a year, or two.

The above photo shows how we mounted and flashed a roof top mounted flood light.
The previous roofer had attached the floodlight to a couple of wood 2 by 4's
which were simply laying on the roof membrane.  Of course the wood rotted
away making it impossible to position the fixture properly.

The above photo shows where an HVAC installer created a real problem.
As you can see the ductwork is installed right on top of the roof
membrane!  To work on this roof, all the ductwork you see here must
first be removed and temporarily stored to provide us with access.
Then, when we have finished with our roofing work, the ductwork
must be re-installed.
